Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 2025. Last updated: June 2025.

Overview

DeftTask is a local-first productivity app. Your tasks, notes, and calendar data are stored on your device and — when you choose to enable sync — in your personal Apple iCloud account. Helixir Labs does not operate servers that receive, store, or process your user content.

This policy describes what information, if any, is collected and how it is used.

Data we do not collect

  • Task, note, or calendar content — stored locally in SQLite on your device only.
  • Personal identifiers such as your name, email address, or Apple ID.
  • Location data.
  • Usage analytics or behavioral tracking.
  • Crash reports sent to Helixir Labs servers (crash data may go to Apple via standard iOS/macOS diagnostics if you have consented to share analytics with Apple).

Local storage

All user content — task records, note bodies (including Markdown-formatted text), linked files, and calendar events — is stored in an SQLite database on your device using the GRDB library. This database is accessible only by DeftTask and is protected by the iOS and macOS file system permissions model.

On macOS, notes may also be mirrored to plain .md files in a folder you choose, giving you direct file-system access. This mirroring is bidirectional and stays entirely on your machine.

CloudKit sync (optional)

If you enable iCloud sync, DeftTask uses Apple’s CloudKit private database to replicate your data across your Apple devices. This means:

  • Data is stored in your personal iCloud private database, not on Helixir Labs infrastructure.
  • Helixir Labs has no technical access to the contents of your CloudKit private database.
  • Sync traffic between devices is encrypted in transit using Apple's standard TLS/CloudKit encryption.
  • Your iCloud storage quota is used. Apple's iCloud privacy practices apply to this data — see Apple's iCloud Privacy Overview.

iCloud sync is opt-in. If you do not enable it, no data ever leaves your device through DeftTask.

App Store and TestFlight

Distribution of DeftTask via the App Store and TestFlight is managed by Apple. Apple collects certain purchase, download, and diagnostic information according to their own privacy policy. Helixir Labs receives anonymized aggregated analytics (such as download counts) from Apple — this data does not personally identify you.

No sale of personal data

Helixir Labs does not sell, rent, or trade any personal information. Because we do not collect user content or identifiers in the first place, there is no such data to share with third parties.

Children’s privacy

DeftTask is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of DeftTask after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
